OFC Maintenance
The present system of fiber network maintenance is reactive i.e. when fault occurs, the NMS of the active system gets alarm and then it intimates the fiber maintenance team about the link failure. The maintenance team, then go the FMS (Fiber Management system) for checking the distance by using OTDR to find the location of fault occurrence. This job takes minimum 30 minutes to an hour depending on time of the day, availability of team, and OTDR in good health. In addition to this, the records of the inventory of spare fibers, unserviceable fibers, high-loss fibers etc are monitored manually.

EFFECT AND VALUE WITH OFC NMS
01 Improve MTTR
OFC NMS Online System shall monitor all cables 24×7. Network problem shall be intimated automatically by the system without human intervention. It shall detect and locate faults in the fiber and report to the right person in time.
02 Improve Network Availability
Proactive maintenance shall be possible by getting analyzed reports from OFC NMS Online System in regard to degradation in the network like high loss, more splices, connector degradation etc.
03 Improve Physical cable documentation
The Inventory module shall help in having updated information in regard to availability of spare fibers, unserviceable fibers, high loss fibers etc.
04 Improve Maintenance Team Efficiency
Records shall be maintained for the duty rosters, escalation, back-up process etc.


WORKING PRINCIPLE – OFC NMS FOR DARK FIBER
Only tests on the dark fiber cores in the same tube.
RTU test wavelength can be the same with Tx/Rx communication wavelength.

WORKING PRINCIPLE – OFC NMS FOR ACTIVE FIBER
Connects RTU the IN USE fibers for testing.
Perfect break-detection, but with higher cost.
The testing wavelength MUST BE LONGER than the communication wavelength.
